SCM Domain Modeling and Repository Kit Design

A lightweight version of the Feature Oriented Domain Analysis (FODA) method is applied to the Software Configuration Management (SCM) domain. Following a brief introduction to SCM, the domain model discussed in detail, covering the contextual, representational and operational features of SCM systems. A high level reference architecture for the SCM domain is analyzed to identify reusable components. Several areas where reuse technologies could be utilized in the creation of a SCM system are highlighted and the initial application of these techniques to a portion of the reference architecture is illustrated. The authors conclude by identifying key challenges in continuing this line of work and reflecting on the FODA process.
